A number of Sub-Committees of the BWMCA are responsible for organising and conducting significant community events on Buderim. These committees are comprised entirely of local volunteers and the quality and reputation of these events reveal the vast talent and commitment of the people in our community who are willing to give their time and effort for the Buderim Community.
The day begins with the very moving Dawn Service, which in 2015, for the first time, was held at the new memorial site, on the edge of the escarpment in the Buderim Village Park.
The main event begins with a parade through Burnett Street to the Buderim Mountain School oval. This is co-ordinated with a fly past of vintage WW1 plans and the parade includes military participants, both active and retired their younger representatives and clubs, community and service organisations, local schools and marching bands.
The main service and wreath laying ceremony is held in the iconic hoop pine grove in the school grounds. Attendance, which increases year by year, is open to all members of the Buderim Community, public and visitors who wish to participate in this special day.
After the service everyone is invited to morning tea in the school covered area with the refreshments provided by the BWMCA Friends of Buderim Sub-Committee. The commemorative wreaths are placed at the Memorial Gates at the entrance to the school oval.
While the reviewing officer and guest speakers vary from year to year, the order of events remains as:
5.00am Dawn Service – Buderim Village Park
8.15am Parade Assembly – Woolworths car park
8.30am Parade – down Burnett Street to Buderim Mt State School
9.00am Main Service – Pine Forest at Buderim Mt. State School
Australia Day Celebrations
The Australia Day celebrations in Buderim are a major event each year. Organised by a BWMCA Sub-Committee for over 25 years, the celebrations are always popular with a strong emphasis on activities for the whole family.
The tradition is to have a Bush Breakfast put on by Buderim Lions Club, watch and cheer on the street parade as it moves along the main street, then enjoy meeting family and friends for fun and activities of the day on the school oval, partaking of refreshments made available by Buderim Rotary Club.
