Lake Kawana Community Centre, Bokarina

Conducted by Adrian King

On Saturday the 16th July at Lake Kawana Community Centre, Bokarina commencing 7pm, you will hear this spacious building reverberate with musical flavours of the British Isles.

You are invited to taste and savour such delicacies such as Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and then be transported to the South of England with Elgar’s beautiful Cello Concerto in E minor played by the highly acclaimed cellist Louise King!

You, the audience, will be carried again to the far North of Scotland when Louise and the orchestra perform Max Bruch’s moving and poignant Adagio on Celtic Melodies.

Concluding the programme will be the greatly loved English Folk Song Suite by the
‘Father of English music’ – the renowned Ralph Vaughn Williams.

This superb kaleidoscopic tasting programme will be performed for you by the superb Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Adrian King.

Matthew Flinders Art Prize

The 2016 Matthew Flinders Art Prize is looming!

It’s that time of year when we call on the talent and creativity of artists across Queensland – and beyond – to show us their best in our annual prestigious Matthew Flinders Art Prize.

This year, the 18th of the competition, is its coming of age year and there are some reorganisation of categories so read the entry form carefully.  The categories this year are: • Living Form

  • Inanimate Form
  • ScapesMatthew Flinders Art Prize .docx
  • Abstracts

The Matthew Flinders Art Prize is one of the most  prestigious art competitions in Queensland. This year we have attracted a number of well-known art critics and curators from all over Queensland as judges.  • Prizes include:

  • Matthew Finders Art Prize Winner $1000 • Category Winners $200 •

People’s Choice $300 • Winner Overall 3D $300 • Winner Overall 2D

$300

The cost of entry for the competition is $20 for BICAS members and $25 for non-members. Finalised details of entries must be received no later than June 24 and works must be received by July 2.

Opening night and winners presentation will be a gala occasion on Friday July 8, admission to which is  $10 ($5 for MFAP entrants) and includes drinks and nibbles. The exhibition of entries runs July 8 – August 6. MFAP is is a great opportunity to gain exposure for your work if you’re an up and coming creative. There will be a Bribie Vibe Arts and Craft Market day at the Arts Centre on Sunday July 31, during the exhibition period, widening its exposure significantly.

The Matthew Flinders Art Prize was named in honour of Bribie’s explorer “founding father”, after whom our beautiful Gallery is named, when it opened  coinciding with the competition inauguration in 1999.  The gallery is arguably one of the largest gallery spaces in southeast Queensland and the BICAC is also one of the busiest art centres in Australia attracting over 20,000 visitors a year.
